The idea of a daytime choir for women has been inspired by various friends who have been unable to join a choir because
of the difficulties of organising regular evening childcare.
Rehearsals are held on Monday mornings while your children are at nursery or school, giving you some childfree time to
concentrate on something that you enjoy. Rehearsal times are 10.00-12.00, but start and finish times are flexible to give you time to collect children punctually.
The choir is for all mums and there is no audition. It is also open to any women who are young at heart and still have a
clear voice in any vocal range. The emergence of heavy vibrato and lack of control varies from person to person, but I know
a number of young 60 year olds who would fit perfectly, so please get in contact if you are available during the daytime and
would like to try us out.
Our rehearsals provide an ideal environment for women to get back into singing after a long break, such as those who have
not sung since school, or since having a family. Tapes are available of all the parts to help you continue learning the song
at home. This speeds our part learning so we spend more time on the fun part of singing - polishing and presenting the song.
Our performance schedule is decided together as a group so that everyone is comfortable with the performance goal and workload.
As with all the choirs at the Surrey Hills Singing School, we cover a wide variety of repertoire from medieval motets to
popular songs, and Debbie is happy to receive requests.
As well as learning songs and improving general musicianship, tutoring is given on singing technique and other aspects of
performance, such as presentation and communication with the audience.
Rehearsals are held during term time at the Ewhurst Evangelical Baptist Church. There is plenty of car parking available
at the church.
