Junior Choir

The Junior Choir is for all children aged 7+. Both boys and girls are welcome and there is no audition procedure.

Through songs and games, the children improve their musicianship and singing technique. The Junior Choir are taught aurally, using sol fa as part of the learning process, and receive word sheets to learn the songs. Musical notation is available to children who wish to follow the music or for parents who wish to practise at home with the children. Tapes are made of the songs for any children who wish to sing along at home. Once learnt, the songs will be performed from memory.

Surrey Hills Junior Choir Singing in a choir is great fun and the benefits are not only for the singer. For those learning an instrument, singing will improve other musicianship skills such as aural skills. For the wind player and sports fanatic, the physical aspects of breathing, posture and coordination will be beneficial. Reading and memory skills also improve through learning the songs and children soon understand that for the choir to perform well, working as a team is essential.

Rehearsals take place on Mondays during term time, at St Nicolas C of E School, Parsonage Road, Cranleigh. They start at 3.30pm and last for one hour. There are no rehearsals during half term.

The cost for the Junior Choir is £3.50 per week and a reduction of £1.50 is available for a second child in the same parent family. Once your child has decided to join the choir, payment is made on a termly basis.
